Bromley Methodist Church

About Us

Bromley Methodist Church is a forward-looking church with a rich history. Over the years we have taken the treasures of the past with us  and embraced the possibilites of the future.

The current church building was opened in 1990 but there has been a Methodist presence in Bromley since 1772 when John Wesley established a Methodist society in the area. Over the years the Methodists in Bromley met in buildings on Farwig Lane, Bromley High Street and Holwood Road/Elmfield Rd. The Victorian High Street church was demolished in 1964 to make way for a new office block and the congregation joined with Methodists from the Central Mission on Farwig Lane to form Bromley Central Methodist Church in Holwood Road/Elmfield Road. When The Glades shopping centre was expanded in the 1980s, the Holwood Road site was demolished. The church then relocated to its current, fully accessible home on the corner of College Road and North Street.

Today, we are part of the Widmore Methodist Circuit - a friendly group of 11 churches serving communities in south-east London/Kent with a membership that spans all ages. The circuit is overseen by the Superintendent Minster. Together with many other circuits, we are part of the London District of the Methodist Church which is overseen by the District Chair. We are part of the British Methodist Conference and a worldwide family of Methodist churches. Click here to access the Methodist UK website.

We are also part of Churches Together in Central Bromley (CTCB).  This is an ecumenical group of different churches within a 15 minute walk of central Bromley who are united by our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and come together to encourage each other in mission to Bromley.  We support the work of the Bromley Town Centre Chaplaincy.
